A little more info about Podgorica:

Nearby places to visit:

Podgorica has a very convenient location in the center of the country. It takes about one hour to reach the coast (Budva, Bar, Petrovac), and around 1.5 to 2 hours to get to the north (the mountains, Kolasin, Žabljak).

It is the business part of Montenegro, where most infrastructure is located and where more locals live - so prices are naturally more affordable.

The central region is the best option if you enjoy exploring the country. On the other hand, if you’re looking for a peaceful escape, our apartment in a quiet local village in the heart of the country offers a cozy place to relax, surrounded by silence, birdsong, and greenery.

From here, it’s easy to take day trips across Montenegro, discover lesser-known locations, and avoid tourist crowds.

So, what can you see in central Montenegro?

Until early summer (around June), some of the most beautiful spots include the Niagara Waterfalls near Podgorica, the viewpoint Pavlova Strana - offering one of the best views of the Crnojević River, Skadar Lake, and the Šipčanik wine cellar.

Other places worth adding to your itinerary are Ostrog Monastery, the Morača River Canyon, Grlo Sokolovo, and Kučka Korita. You should definitely visit the historic capital, Cetinje, with its charming “gingerbread-style” houses, and combine it with a trip to Lipa Cave and the village of Njeguši, where you can taste traditional prosciutto and buy local homemade delicacies.

In central Montenegro, you’ll experience real local life - from the market in Tuzi (near the Albanian border) to the Gintaš green market, and peaceful walks in Gorica Park.

Podgorica and its surroundings are not just a “stopover” - they offer a perfectly located base for truly discovering Montenegro.
